  • Behrens-Eaton Museum also offers tours on occasion  at 1520 West St, Redding. The museum reflects a Victorian home of the early 1900’s. Four generations of the Behrens Eaton family lived there, from 1898 until Judge Richard Eaton’s death in 2003. The judge left a trust dictating that his home be turned into a Victorian museum to show future generations what a family home of that era looked like. His will stipulated that the governors establish a repository of historical books, artifacts, letters, illustrations, photographs and papers that are symbolic of Eaton’s professional career and his public life relative to Shasta County and California history. There are display museums at 1939 Butte St. just north of the Behrens-Eaton Museum. Admission is free. Donations are accepted. For more information, call 241-3454.
  • Self-guided Historical Tours available: The Shasta Historical Society, in collaboration with VIVA Downtown and FarNorCal GIS, is offering “A Walk through History”, a self-guided digital walking tour through downtown Redding. They are the Shasta Historical Society building, Old City Hall, Behrens-Eaton House, Independent Order of Odd Fellows’ Reading Lodge, the Lorenz Hotel, the Cascade Theatre, the Bank of Shasta County, and the Diestelhorst Bridge. Users will be able to access the self-guided walking tour two different ways, either in person using a Quick Response code and at home by visiting www.shastahistorical.org/a-walk-through-history.
